How Did GNEE Overcome Design, Manufacturing, and Transport Challenges to Deliver a 1000m³ Cryogenic Storage Tank Overseas?

On September 3, a 1000m³ cryogenic liquid nitrogen storage tank manufactured by GNEE was successfully loaded onto a vessel and set sail. It is scheduled to arrive at the Port of Brownsville, USA, on October 27.

This tank is a large-scale cryogenic storage vessel for liquid nitrogen. Its smooth “departure” signifies that GNEE has successfully solved three major challenges encountered at the order stage—technical design, production and manufacturing, and logistics and transportation.

GNEE received the customer order in February this year and immediately began project scheduling. The first unit was completed and rolled off the production line in early July and left the factory on August 19. With a capacity of 1000 cubic meters, this tank presented unprecedented challenges in every aspect.


Engineering and Design Adjustments

Upon receiving the order, GNEE’s design team promptly carried out recalculations and redesigns for pipeline dimensions, interlayer piping layout, and support structures, ensuring full compliance with production requirements. Since the cylindrical shell diameter reached 5.8 meters, the original welding platform could not accommodate longitudinal seam welding. The company therefore adjusted the production plan and modified the available welding platforms.

Each storage tank is fabricated by welding together multiple cylindrical shell sections. For this 1000m³ tank, a total of 24 shell sections were required. As a result, the company modified the assembly tooling and upgraded the painting workshop to meet coating requirements.


Transport and Logistics Breakthrough

It is reported that the liquid nitrogen storage tank has a total length of 49.9 meters. The transportation vehicle used was 58 meters long, 5.9 meters wide, and 7.05 meters high. Such dimensions posed major logistical challenges, including excessive road width occupation and a large turning radius. Through careful planning and cross-departmental coordination, the transportation task was successfully completed.
