The Pressure Swing Adsorption Nitrogen Generator (referred to as PSA Nitrogen Generator for short) is a device that separates high-purity nitrogen from compressed air using the principle of physical adsorption. It is one of the most widely used, economical and efficient on-site nitrogen generation technologies in industry today.
The main components of air are nitrogen (about 78%) and oxygen (about 21%), along with small amounts of argon, carbon dioxide, water vapor, etc.
The PSA nitrogen generator uses a special adsorbent--carbon molecular sieve. Carbon molecular sieves have a unique microporous structure, and their adsorption capacity and adsorption rate for different gas molecules vary.
Key Point: Under the same pressure, the carbon molecular sieve has a stronger adsorption capacity for oxygen molecules than for nitrogen molecules, and the diffusion rate of oxygen molecules is faster than that of nitrogen molecules. This allows oxygen molecules to be adsorbed into the micropores of the molecular sieve more quickly and in larger quantities, while nitrogen molecules are relatively difficult to be adsorbed. As a result, nitrogen molecules can pass through the adsorption bed and become concentrated.
High purity: PSA nitrogen generator plants enable the production of high-purity nitrogen from air, achieving up to 99.9995% purity, a level unattainable with membrane systems. Utilizing CMS (carbon molecular sieve) technology, these generators provide a continuous supply of ultra-high-purity nitrogen and are available with or without internal compressors.
Low operating costs: Replacing outdated air separation plants with modern technology can reduce nitrogen production costs by more than 50%. The net cost of nitrogen generated on-site is significantly lower than that of bottled or liquefied nitrogen. On-site nitrogen generation is a sustainable, environmentally friendly, and energy-efficient method for producing pure, clean, dry nitrogen gas. Compared to the energy consumption of cryogenic air separation plants and the transportation of liquid nitrogen, on-site generation uses less energy and produces fewer greenhouse gases.
