Description
Shell and tube heat exchanger is a kind of heat exchanger design. It is the most common type of heat exchanger used in refineries and other large chemical processes and is suitable for high pressure applications. As the name suggests, this type of heat exchanger consists of a housing (a large pressure vessel) with a bundle of tubes inside. One fluid flows through the pipe and the other flows through the pipe (through the casing) to transfer heat between the two fluids. This set of tubes is called a bundle and may consist of several types of tubes: flat tubes, longitudinal finned tubes, etc.
