Shell and tube heat exchanger is composed of shell, heat transfer tube bundle, tubesheet, baffle, tube box, etc. The shell is mostly cylindrical and is equipped with a tube bundle, which is fixed on the tube plate at both ends. Two kinds of hot and cold fluid for heat exchange, one in the pipe flow, called pipe flow fluid, the other in the pipe flow, called shell side fluid. In order to increase the heat transfer coefficient of the fluid outside the tube, several baffles are usually installed in the housing. The baffle increases the velocity of the shell side fluid, forcing the fluid to cross the tube bundle several times in a specified path, enhancing fluid turbulence. Heat exchange tubes can be arranged in equilateral triangle or square on the tubesheet. Equilateral triangle arrangement is compact, the fluid outside the tube has high turbulence and large heat transfer coefficient. Square arrangement is easy to clean outside the pipe, suitable for the fluid easy to scale.
